Every evening when I wrap up filming for Paanchvi Pass I begin yet another shift - this time at home with my kids. I take back the questions from the show to play with my kids. I play the same quiz on my dining table at home with them.
And sometimes when I go home I am so tired that I can’t remember more than 4-5 questions but I will still quiz them to find out if they are smarter than a fifth grader! So the whole family gets together and our dinners have become like that…. it’s a lot of fun. Also on the weekends if we are shooting then the show continues at home on TV.
It’s a nice feeling to be able to maintain that fun but still educate people…

The other day someone asked me ‘do you get emotionally involved… attached… with your contestants?’
And the answer to that is yes… of course!
At that moment on the show when I am playing with them nothing is more important to me than that person on the show at that time. Emotionally, physically, mentally..in every way I try to make them feel comfortable. At that time I am not so important… it’s a life changing moment for them.
And now I know what you want to ask me next! I’m sure you want to know if i want to help them…
Yes I would like to help but in my own way. In a way that is withing the rules. Often before the show filming begins they tell me ‘u will help us na’ and I say ‘see the only way I can help u is by making you feel comfortable and at ease. I can’t help you by giving you an answer.’ And I try in that way to help them win some money.
But there are times when it’s the opposite!
Sometimes I don’t think this person deserves to go further. If you know you are coming to the stage you should have prepared for it. stakes are high… You just cant come here for a laugh. Its takes lakhs to put this show together. Everybody’s jobs are on the line when you put together such a show… so u can’t come here and take away from the crux of the show which is the question answer. And I do tend to lead people to that way… where you know they have earned enough money… go off.. because that money means a lot of things to a lot of people.
So yea it works both ways!

The other day someone asked me how it felt being back on the show… after KBC…whether it was a sense of déjà vu. And when I thought about it if I’m honest it doesn’t feel like that. And I think that has largely to do with me being an actor.
I think being an actor everything would then become déjà vu. You get up in the morning.. you go to work..you act and the next day u do the same thing. So although it may feel like you are doing the same thing but it’s not actually like that.
I don’t feel that this is like being back again on KBC because the whole show is so focused. In fact I forget the last show when I start the next one. so now I am back after a whole year it hardly feels like I am doing the same thing…
So yea it’s great to be back on television. its great to meet the participants and the audiences. Nice to be back with Star and Synergy… the crew is also almost the same. But despite all these similarities the show is completely different. its new. the questions are easier but still stump a lot of adults. its a show for adults and my question is kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hai?
